70.8
Description
The ocean covers 70,8% of the surface of our planet. Climate, biodiversity, transport, energy, food, health… It is at the heart of the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
Based on the expertise of scientists, training organizations and industrialists in the maritime sector, 70.8 is a new kind of science museum in Brest, a true technological complement to Océanopolis, the origin of the project.
From marine biotechnologies to deep-sea exploration, maritime routes to renewable marine energies, tomorrow's means of transport to knowledge of the ocean through satellites, 70.8 makes advances in knowledge accessible to all.
Innovations from the world of the ocean staged:
Molecules of marine origin are omnipresent in our daily lives. Some confectionery, desserts, or charcuterie contain algae used in particular for their gelling properties. In medicine, a starfish molecule can block the cell division at the origin of certain cancers. Countless molecules of marine origin are at the origin of drugs often present in our medicine cabinets. The fluorescence discovered in the 50s revolutionized medical imaging. Originally, it was researchers who worked on the luminescence of jellyfish.
To discover at 70.8:
On the exploration of the deep sea, the scenographers have reconstructed a hydrothermal spring with octopuses and giant worms. We discover the various exploration devices that allow diving to these great depths, up to 6000 meters!
You will also discover this astonishing projection on the ground of a sandy and rocky foreshore of almost 20 meters, where the visitor will be able to interact with certain animals of the Breton coasts.
It's a real water sea voyage coupled with a scientific expedition that is being prepared for visitors!
