Daoulas Abbey – Heritage Trails in Finistère

Daoulas Abbey is currently closed. Reopening on March 30, 2024. Former monastery, governed from the 12th century by the regular canons of the order of Saint-Augustin, the Abbey of Daoulas still preserves today beautiful testimonies of its initial splendor: an abbey church of the 12th century (today a parish church), a Romanesque cloister and its remarkable basin, the fountain and the 16th century oratory. Exceptional gardens – the garden of simple people labeled “Remarkable Garden” and that of medicinal trees recently awarded a Golden Victory at the Victoires du Paysage 2021 – enhance the visit, welcoming a wide variety of medicinal species to discover within a landscaped route. Major exhibitions showcase cultural diversity through tours rich in works and surprises. Daoulas Abbey offers a tour. This circuit, made up of around fifteen panels, offers an interpretation system as well as directional and informative signage on the built heritage and gardens. In an approach to accessibility and in order to improve the comfort of the visit, the route now offers keys to reading the history of the place and the medicinal plant garden. From April, the Abbey gardens are accessible to discover photographic walks. From June, the Abbey unveils its major annual exhibition on various themes, whether artistic, ethnographic and/or historical.
