In 1922, a Turkish delegation came to Pierre Loti's home to pay tribute to Atatürk, who the following year would become founder and president of the Republic of Turkey. Throughout his life, the writer was fascinated by this country, as his novels testify. During his travels, he drew and photographed Istanbul. His house in Rochefort was adorned with a Turkish salon and a mosque.
