During the summer, the Archipel hosts the work of two visual artists (painters, photographers, printmakers, etc.) from the Fouesnant area – whether amateur or professional – every week.
This week’s programme features: Andrée Douguet and Jo-hanaa
Andrée Douguet, painting – acrylic
Her love of drawing and colour first led Andrée Douguet to watercolour and then to acrylic, thanks to lessons from experienced painters. She went on to explore various techniques (pastel, ink, Posca, etc.). She is now moving away from purely figurative painting, allowing her imagination to take hold of a brushstroke, a colour, a line… “Drawing inspiration from our landscapes and translating the atmosphere into a harmony of colours and shapes, always seeking the light”. Andrée Douguet has a particular fondness for our seaside landscapes and country lanes. Here she presents her interpretation on canvas, created using a brush, Posca pens and a palette knife, layering colours and textures and leaving the interpretation up to the viewer…
- Jo-hanaa, painting – oil
Due to her profession (linked to biology and geology), Jo-hanaa initially expressed herself through drawing, particularly observational, scientific and technical drawing. After a few ‘pencil classes’ and workshops, she began painting and discovered pigments, colours, watercolour (outlined in Indian ink) and, above all, oil painting.
Today, she paints in oils, using a palette knife for highlights. She favours flat areas of colour and the exploration of non-primary colours. Her primary sources of inspiration are the mineral world (the ocean, rocks, islands and volcanic landscapes…), architecture and the plant world. For her, her canvases are a succession of impressions, sometimes captured at random – suspended moments that invite the viewer on a journey, often an inner and nostalgic one.
