During the summer, the Archipel hosts weekly exhibitions featuring the work of two visual artists (painters, photographers, printmakers, etc.) from the Fouesnant area, whether amateur or professional.
This week’s programme features: Bastien Courtay and Joane Charlotte Senechal
- Bastien Courtay, acrylic and watercolour
A graphic designer and illustrator by trade, Bastien Courtay also practises sculpture in his spare time. Living in Bénodet, he explores the Fouesnant region and the coastline of southern Finistère with admiration and delight. Driven by a passion to capture the beauty of a landscape, his inspiration stems mainly from the emotions evoked by a setting, with light often serving as the driving force behind his work. He incorporates people into his pieces to remind us that these places belong to everyone and that each of us is free to bring our own story and sensibility to them.
The works on display in this exhibition are created using acrylics and watercolours. These highly realistic pieces often depict scenes of everyday life (walks, children at play, the beach…) and various coastal landscapes of the Fouesnant region.

The work of Joane Charlotte Senechal, an artist who graduated from EESAB Quimper (European Higher School of Art of Brittany) in 2023, forms part of an exploration of the image imbued with a tangible reality.
The themes of blurring, reflection and doubling are central to her paintings, which are themselves inspired by her photographs.
Her subjects blend her everyday surroundings with her mythological, cosmogonic and, above all, symbolic reflections. It is through a desire to illustrate a repetition intrinsic to the history of humanity that her paintings seek to engage with these concepts.
