Petite histoire de la santé mentale en France | Conférence d'Agathe Meridjen-Manoukian

‘Mental health’, designated a ‘major national cause’ in 2025, is a long-standing concept. This lecture traces its history across different eras and locations, from the Middle Ages to the present day. In particular, it examines the medical theories developed since the 18th century, the asylums of the 19th century, the sectorisation of psychiatry and the organisation of the profession in the 1960s, as well as current changes and debates. Agathe Meridjen-Manoukian is a PhD student in sociology and history. She is researching the history of hospitals and psychiatry, and exploring ways to present this history in order to facilitate a collective discussion of the past and present of psychiatry. in partnership with Harmonie Mutuelle as part of the Mental Health Awareness Weeks
