Description

The Kerbader Chapel dates from the 18th century and replaces an earlier 16th-century building. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Notre-Dame de la Pitié is sometimes called Notre-Dame des Neiges. According to legend, there are two reasons for this name. The first is that it is said to have snowed on the day of the Kerbader pardon. The second is the literal translation from Breton. Indeed, the pronunciations are similar. In reality, it is indeed Notre-Dame de la Pitié, as is written on the Pietà, which can be found inside the chapel. It depicts Mary holding Jesus on her lap. You can read ‘Mater Dolorosa’, word for word, ‘Sorrowful Mother’, in Breton: ‘Itron Varia an nec’h’, which means Our Lady of Mercy. A pilgrimage takes place every year on the third or fourth Sunday in August. Behind the chapel, you can see the bread oven. Originally, it was located in the hamlet of Trégonnour in Mousterlin. The stones were preserved by the town hall so that it could be rebuilt exactly as it was. It takes 15 days of preheating to prepare the oven for baking and reach the desired temperature. The bread festival takes place in early May. The Kerbader Chapel dates from the 18th century and replaces an earlier 16th-century building. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
